What a great day to capture an Engagement session with my lovely fun couple Allison & Philip on a full moon, better yet it is the SUPERMOON. As you can see Allison & Philip are so willing to go along some of my crazy ideas like getting into the water, kissing infront of the White Rock protestors for the Northern Gateway pipeline project as the protestors blocking the BNSF coal train while police, TV crews and many people watch on. Yes I got the couple kissing, loving away with all the action behind….while the train is sitting idle.

Here is the final part of the engagement session of Shaz + Riz Engagement session in Gastown and Cooper Park of Vancouver. During the weekend I had the opportunity to spend six hours of planning the perfect wedding for the lovely couple. There is a lot of work behind the scene to make this memorable three days events. We will cover a lot South Asian culture with Pithi

Pithi Ceremony

A cleansing ceremony generally held before the wedding, in which the bride and groom are pasted with turmeric powder in a beautification process.

This entails rubbing a paste made out of turmeric, rose water, and other ingredients, on the bride and groom’s skin. It is believed that this softens and whitens the skin so that they will be radiant for the wedding. Family members and friends often times have fun getting the bride and groom completely covered in the paste.

As a part of the pithi, family and friends also bless the couple with good luck (by dabbing their forehead with saffron), radiant hair (by anointing them with oil), wealth (by offering money), abundance (by showering them with rice), and sweetness (by feeding them sugar).

The pithi begins with the bride / groom closest family offering their blessings, followed by more distant family and friends. We encourage you to take part. Here’s how…

At your turn, greet the bride / groom and congratulate him / her. Then give him / her your blessings by doing any or all of the following:

Feed him / her candy
(To wish sweetness in life.)
Throw rice over him / her three times
(To wish abundance and bounty of nature.)
Give him / her an envelope with a few dollars in it
(To wish wealth and prosperity)
Rub oil on his / her hair
(To wish beauty and radiance on the day of the wedding)
Dot his / her forehead with saffron
(To acknowledge the auspiciousness of the occasion)
Rub tumeric paste on his / her arms, neck or face
(To giver soft and radiant skin on the day of the wedding)
Touch your knuckles to either side of his / her head, then place them on either side of your own forehead and crack them against your head
(To wish good luck and dispel any evil spirits around him / her)

When everybody has finished offering their blessings to the bride and groom, he / she will stand on a chair, and then step down, breaking a “sapatia”, which is a small clay pot containing lentils (symbolizing bounty of nature), silver coins (symbolizing material wealth), sugar (symbolizing sweetness and harmony), and turmeric (symbolizing good health). By breaking the sapatia, he / she releases the gifts that it contains.

Mehndi Ceremony

Refers to the decorative henna applied on women’s hands and feet, particularly a bride’s. Traditionally, the women from both the bride and groom’s families get together on the evening when the bride’s mehndi is applied to dance, sing and celebrate.

The bride’s mehndi is said to signify the strength of love in the marriage: The darker the mehndi, the deeper the love. Also, as long as the mehndi doesn’t fade, the new bride is excused from doing household chores. Thus brides try to keep the mehndi fresh and vibrant for as long as possible!

Nikah Ceremony (Wedding)

The nikah is the Islamic marriage contract ceremony. It will take place at Brock House. This is where the couple formally indicates signing of the marriage contract. The bride and groom must both have three witnesses present to ensure that the marriage
is consensual.

Creating Mood at Bright Sunny Day

Mood is created by Contrast but shooting at 4pm while on a full sunny day it is impossible unless the couples are under the shade, here I have used lighting to create the evening shoot as you can feel the mood.

Yes I got the chance to shoot with the New Canon 5D Mark III with this fun Engagement session for my clients, the focus point is faster and beat my loyal three and half years old 5D Mark II. Is it worth the $3700 price tag? Yes and No! If you do Video and Photos production work, it is a big step to have the right photography gears even though clients don’t see it but as picky as I’m I know I can push my photography + Videography to the next level for my clients. Had a great time interview True Engagement Story at Princess and the pea bed and breakfast in Langley. If you are planning a wedding or needing a place to stay, Princess and the Pea is a great place to stay and it is over 100 years old owner and bridal show organizer Wally told me. I was in a private room ‘Sleeping Beauties Room’ which is i the back and the room is beautiful and quiet great for couples. A Fantasy Story with a fantasy setting!

What is Camera 18% Gray means in Photography

What is camera 18% Gray?

18% Gray color is how camera sees an object this gives you the proper exposure of an object, trouble is camera don’t see like human eyes.

Here is some example:

Camera sees Lighter Skin Tone Person

For anyone photographing a light skin person, the camera sees a lighter skin person will make it darker to match the 18% gray so the lighter person will under expose by one Stop or more “Say this example is one -Stop” (different camera and lenses gives different value, you have to do test on your equipments) To have it correct, you must bring one Stop value brighter say from F5.6 to F4 or ISO 200 to ISO 400 or 1/400s to 1/200s.

Camera sees Darker Skin Tone Person

So for a Darker skin person is opposite since the camera sees darker skin, will lighten the object to match the 18% gray value, therefore you will need to darken the exposure the object by one Stop or more value. To correct it you will make it one -Stop value darker. Say from F4 to F5.6 or ISO 400 to ISO 200 or 1/200s to 1/400s.

Use the Camera Histogram

As most beginner photographer have trouble of getting the proper exposure, I hope this article has helped you understand camera 18% gray you should always look at the Histogram to see the dark and light values (do not look at the LCD screen as it is not correct). I have a great time meeting people at my Bridal show at Newlands Golf and Country Club, I have done wedding before and enjoyed the space and environment, it was a great return for me to the Langley Community. The show is well run but we did ran into a small issue when the power breakers kept on tripping for some of the booths almost half an hour into the opening.
